Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai was a girl shot in the head by the Taliban almost 5 months ago (a very fast recovery for a head injury).  The Taliban didn't believe in girls going to school, so they shot Malala, a blogger campaigning for girl's education.  However, she went through numerous surgeries, and started school again today, March 20, 2012.  She says "it's the happiest moment of her life" because she is going back to school.  She is attending Edgbaston High School in Birmingham, England.  Malala wants all of the girl's in the world to have the "basic opportunity" of going to school.  She will still be campaigning for girl's education.

This story affects the U.S. because the U.S. might get involved in helping other countries, such as Pakistan, by letting girls have more rights, especially in education.  I hope this happens even though President George Washington wanted the country to stay neutral.  In my opinion, we should join other countries, such as England in helping foreign nation's achieve women's rights and girl's education (I'm not just saying this because I'm a girl).

If we help out these other nations with their issues, other countries might also respect us, so it would be a "win-win" situation (not to sound selfish or anything).  All in all, I think the U.S. should and will help other countries with issues, such as women's rights, instead of taking the rights we have for granted.  Malala Yousafzai definitely did the correct thing by campaigning  for what she believes in.
